Lent

Tomorrow see’s the start of Lent.

“What?” – I hear some of you say, well let me tell you…

In a nutshell Lent is a time for Christians to reflect on the meaning of Easter and what Jesus did by giving His life on the cross.

When I was younger I went to a Church of England Primary School and during Lent we were always encouraged to give up something and raise money for charity, so it was a time I was very aware of. Once I left that environment and was in a more pentecostal community the Lenten period wasn’t really spoken about or observed, so it lost some of its meaning for me.

This year however I decided to use it as an opportunity to deepen my faith by spending more time in prayer and reading my Bible more frequently (everyday to be precise). I’m also considering giving something up, but I’m not entirely sure yet.

I realise not everyone reading this will be a person who believes in Jesus Christ, however I encourage you to try and do something for others during Lent. In a way that is the whole significance of Jesus coming. He was a gift to us from the Father, a gift we did not deserve, because for all intents and purposes humans had rejected God, but Christ came anyway so that there would always be that possibility for us to get back into relationship with God.

So you have 40 days to challenge yourself to do something positive, whether that is learning more about your faith or giving your time to charity or even spending more time with your loved ones, it’s up to you.

Here are the pancakes I made today in honour of pancake day, they are vegan and they were scrumptious!
